Position Descriptions

Sustainability Outreach Specialist – *Undergraduates Only*

Position Information

Job Summary

Sustainability is a growing field that uses a holistic lens to investigate and problem solve the environmental, social, and economic problems our world faces. The goal of the Office of Sustainability’s Internship Program is to bring people from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives together to create a dynamic team that works to create a culture of sustainability at Texas A&M University. The team will focus on increasing the sustainability of practices such as: energy and water use, transportation, food services, construction and built environment, purchasing, recycling, and social justice through the development of outreach initiatives and event coordination.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Engage students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the community to create a culture of sustainability at Texas A&M University through education and outreach.
  2. Aid in the deployment and creation of various campus engagement platforms such as presentations, tabling, workshops, videos, outreach through social media, the Sustainability Cam, and the creation of educational media material.
  3. Participate, create, and lead outreach activities at events such as Campus Sustainability Day and Campus Earth Day.
  4. Gain experience working in a diverse team-based office setting that coordinates with all divisions and departments of campus.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Must be enrolled as an undergraduate student at Texas A&M working toward a bachelor's degree.

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills:

Excellent communication, teamwork, and analytical skills. Experience using word processing and presentation software. Ability to demonstrate a history of incorporating sustainable practices into personal daily living. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred skills:

Public Speaking, educator experience, presentation experience, tabling/outreach experience, social media experience, graphic design, and videography and/or photography experience.

Sustainability Social Media Intern – *Undergraduates Only*

Job Summary

Sustainability is a growing field that uses a holistic lens to investigate and problem solve the environmental, social, and economic problems our world faces. The Social Media Intern will assist the Office of Sustainability (OS) in creating a culture of sustainability at Texas A&M University through OS social media platforms. The job involves working both independently and with OS team members to develop social media content for @sustainableTAMU. Current active platforms include Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Strategizes and creates content for all OS social media channels and online outreach.
  2. Plans, designs, collects, edits, and sends engaging and audience-focused content for OS, Aggie Green Fund, and Aggie Sustainability Alliance.
  3. Develops social media campaigns to increase engagement across platforms, networks, and audiences.
  4. Support OS interns in the development of social media content.
  5. Works collaboratively with the OS staff and student team to implement storytelling strategies through social media.
  6. Researches and applies new trends to enhance the user experience on social media.
  7. Strategizes content for and attends campus sustainability events, takes photos, and posts timely content on social media.
  8. Gain experience working in a diverse team-based office setting that coordinates with all divisions and departments of campus.
  9. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Must be enrolled as an undergraduate student at Texas A&M working toward a bachelor's degree.

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills:

  1. Experience with designing and writing social media posts and promotional materials.
  2. Experience in and knowledge of various Social Media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, etc.).
  3. Experience with social media strategy.
  4. Attention to detail and basic knowledge of general office use of computers and software applications.
  5. Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.

Preferred skills:

  1. Work-Study Certificate.
  2. Previous experience managing professional and /or organizational social media platforms.
  3. Previous experience managing a personal account with a large audience (1000+ followers).
  4. Knowledge of social media trends and methods to increase reach and followers.
  5. Experience creating social media graphics.
  6. Knowledge of software such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, or Canva.
  7. Social media management tools such as Hootsuite.
  8. Experience creating email campaigns and e-newsletters.
  9. Video and/or photography experience.

Sustainability Communications Graduate Assistant - Non-Teaching

Job Summary

The Office of Sustainability is looking for a graduate student to manage and produce digital campaigns focused on sustainability. The candidate selected will collaborate with our team to conceptualize, plan, coordinate, implement, and disseminate educational and promotional campaigns, primarily across digital platforms. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about marketing and communication with an emphasis on social media. This individual will work with our team to engage students and other campus stakeholders through media campaigns. Projects could include short videos, photo stories, and other content distributed via websites, social media platforms, email and print. Preparation will include researching, brainstorming, strategizing, designing, and collaborating with the Office of Sustainability team.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Actively update the department’s Facebook, Instagram, and website with engaging and relevant content
  2. Create graphics and informational designs/layouts for use in digital and/or print media such as banners, fliers, announcements, presentations, and annual reports
  3. Assist with a variety of marketing and communication-related projects and tasks
  4. Collect content relevant to specific social media channels by attending campus events and using social media tools
  5. Collaborate with student interns on creating social media content
  6. Collaborate with student interns to market their presentations, workshops, events, etc.
  7. Shoot high-quality photographs and create short videos at campus events (Equipment will be provided)
  8. Monitor the official social media channels of other TAMU departments/organizations and share /retweet content that is engaging or relevant to our audience
  9. Collect and report social media analytics
  10. Research best practices and utilize social media scheduling and sharing tools
  11. Record and/or edit videos to be uploaded on the department’s YouTube channel
  12. Create accessible content
  13. Assist with special projects and office duties as necessary
  14. Propose and implement strategies to grow the department’s social media following

Required Education and Experience:

Must be enrolled as a graduate student at Texas A&M.

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills:

  1. Knowledge and/or experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro, InDesign)
  2. Knowledge and/or experience in photography
  3. Knowledge and/or experience in videography
  4. Knowledge of social media marketing best practices
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  6. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and assignments
  7. Ability to work collaboratively
  8. Working knowledge of sustainability efforts or a willingness to learn
