This presentation will discuss several modern examples of environmental racism, the importance for decision-makers to understand these implications, and what action is currently being taken to address them.

Culture and Climate: How to Talk About It

  • Summary: Discussion on how personal beliefs, both political and cultural, affect how individuals view climate change, as well as how to approach conversations regarding climate change in an open and effective way.

Bioremediation of Agricultural Soils

  • Summary: Both anthropogenic and natural sources are contributors to soil pollution, but through bioremediation, these pollutants can be reduced by microbial activity, phytoremediation, or mycoremediation. Even though bioremediation is a widely used practice to mitigate the effects of soil pollution, regenerative agriculture might be the solution to preventing it.

The Development of Renewable Energy in Society Today

  • Summary: The three most popular renewable energy sources being implemented in society today are solar, wind, and hydropower. For these energy alternatives to become the dominant source of power, infrastructure needs to be improved and environmental issues need to be addressed. Our talk will review these issues, discuss the positives and negatives of each renewable energy source, and suggest ways to better incorporate renewable energy into society.
